Chapter Fourteen
Nobody Messes with the Medicine Man
Earth
When the pillow case was finally removed from over my head the helicopter was landing on a beautiful green lawn. Crush and Horse were in the helicopter with me.
“Where is my daughter?!” I cried as soon as Crush removed the gag from my mouth.
Horse held up his hands. “Calm down, she’s already inside waiting for you.” He pointed out the window to my right. I turned to see what he was pointing at and my mouth dropped open.
“Wow!” The word gushed out my mouth in a startled breath. The chopper had just landed in front of a mansion log cabin. I had never in my life seen anything like it. It had to be at least five stories high and as wide as a football field.
“This is your new home, it’s amazing, isn’t it?” Horse asked and I could hear the pride in his voice.
“It’s beautiful.” I could not deny it. It was breathtakingly beautiful, something you would see in a Disney cartoon. However, this was not my new home. My home was over Larry’s bookstore and juice bar. And as soon as I found out where I was, I was going to find Rain and make my way back there.
“Chief Holata had it built nearly sixty-years ago.”
I turned to look at Horse. “Who is Chief Holata?”
He smiled. “The very first King of Savages.”
“What does that mean? King of Savages? Isn’t that kind of offensive to the Native, and African-American people of your tribe?” He’d called Black that back at the bookstore. I wondered if it had anything to do with the fact that Melech was some kind of demon that could control fire and make the flame appear in his eyes.
“Here... let’s walk and talk. I’m sure little Rain is as anxious to see you as you are to see her.” Horse said as he untied the belt from around my wrists, handing it back to Crush.
“Aren’t you worried I’ll try and run away?”
He shook his head. “Our reservation is surrounded on all sides by miles and miles of woods. If you make it pass our gates, you wouldn’t get far before you ran into your first wolf pack. If by some miracle you survived their attack, I assure you, you won’t survive the next.”
My eyes widened. “Seriously?” I’m a city girl, I didn’t know nothing about no woods.
He held his head back and laughed at my stricken expression as Crush opened the door jumping out the chopper. Then he turned and helped me out.
“Is he serious?” I asked Crush “Is this place surrounded by wolves?”
He grunted. “You don’t want to be there when it gets dark.”
Crush I believed. People like him didn’t do much lying. However, they needed not worry about me trying to escape on foot. I wasn’t crazy about dogs, let alone wolves. That being said, if I happened to find a ride or a car...all beats were off.
As we walked toward the beautiful log palace that Horse said was
